Wray Scarecrow
10K Road Race
Saturday 22nd April 2006
Is this the year for the record to be broken?

The 10k road race was first run in 1998 and has become the traditional opening event of Wray Scarecrow Festival. The winners of the first race – Paul Miller (0:31:52) and Ann Wainwright (0:36:12) still hold the record times.
The race has gained the reputation of being one of the toughest 10k’s on the calendar. It will follow the same route as in previous years, taking the runners out of the village of Wray along the quiet country lanes in the lovely Lune Valley. The first 3 km lulls the runners into a false sense of ease before the shock of the steep climb up from Mill Houses sorts out the fit from the not quite so fit! From then on it’s more ups and downs past Ashleys and Old MoorRoad before dropping back down to Mill Houses and back to the village.

See the start of the race in Wennington Road at 1:15 pm and cheer the first finishers home about half an hour later outside the Village Institute.

Then spend the rest of the afternoon strolling round the village to see what the Scarecrows are up to this year.

Last year’s winners
Male Steve Littler (Wesham) 0:34:08
