for the year.
The program for 2006 is as follows:-
January: Is the annual social evening which we share with Lowgill W.I. It is a Hot Pot and pavlova evening, followed by a game of bingo and a sales table. It was a fun evening and enjoyed enormously by everyone.
Also in January we have our annual outing to the sales in Manchester followed by a show at one of the theatres. This year we went to see "What every woman knows"at the Exchange theatre, which was absolutely fantastic.
It is also the annual Fun Quiz on the 30th January, which this year is being held at Tunstall, we are sending 3 teams.
February: Mr Malcolm Pilling is giving a talk on "Do your remember this" this month and should be fun and interesting.
.March: It is our joint meeting with Tunstall this month and this year it is our turn to visit the Tunstall ladies. We always look forward to this especially the lovely supper provided at the end of the evening.
Also in this month we have our annual Cheese and Wine which is held in the village institute and is supported by most of the village and people from away too. It is a fantastic evening where everyone joins into the spirit of things and gives lots of money for our charity. This year's charity is "St John's Hospice."
April: In April one of our own members Mrs Jean Argles is giving us a talk and a slide show on "The Lebanon" We always look forward to this as Jean seems to manage to make us feel that we have taken part in her holiday.
May: "Wray & Tatham before the first world war" is the title of our talk tonight which is being given by Mr Mike Winstanley. Also in this month we are having an educational day, which is a talk and demonstration by Joyce Jones proprietor of JJ Planting which is a new business in the village. She will be showing us how to make hanging baskets and tubs.
June: The Annual Barbeque at Brenda Mickle's home is scheduled for tonight. This has proved to be a great success where all members have lots of fun, and a great deal of laughter. There is to be a sales table, and of course there will be lots to eat, and a glass of wine.
July: This is our end of Term Summer Party Night, and each year one of our members offers her garden for this event. This year we are going to the home of Mrs Sue Montague Mardsden, and again looking for lovely sunny weather. This is a lovely, enjoyable evening when everyone makes a special dish and were we all have a glass of wine and usually just chit chat and have fun.
There is no meeting in August, but again this year we are hoping to do some walking with the Tatham Fells Ladies..
September: My Place In The Sun by Barbara Lipscomb is the title for this months talk, which sounds like it should be very interesting. The Summer outing also takes place in September and this year we are going to visit the Pickering area in North Yorkshire..
October: This is our annual general meeting night,. This is when we choose a new committee or re appoint anyone who wishes to remain on the committee, and then we have a sales table and a good jacobs join supper. I promise you that it is a good night and not a bit like usual boring AG.M's.
November: The talk this month is by Cath Greenbank and the title is "Osteoporosis".
December: Well what else would you expect us to do but have a party in this month. Our committee finds a local hotel and we all go out for dinner. We also take a present wrapped up and put into the bran tub and then we take a gift home with us from one of our friends. It is a lovely social evening and gets us all into the Christmas Spirit.
Well this is The Wennington W.I. calendar for 2006. We
are a grand happy bunch of ladies and anyone who would like to join us would
be more than welcome, we all love meeting new people and we can promise newcomers
once
you've joined you'll never want to leave.

July: This is our end of Term Summer Party Night, and each year one of our members offers her garden for this event. This year we are going to the home of Mrs Margaret Wring, and again looking for lovely sunny weather. This is a lovely, enjoyable evening when everyone makes a special dish and were we all have a glass of wine and usually just chit chat and have fun.
There is no meeting in August, but this year we are planning an evening walk with the w.i. ladies from tatham fells, and either having a jacobs join supper or a bar snack wherever the walk ends ups.
September:We have Marie Raynor coming to the September meeting to give a talk and demonstration on Reflexology. This should be a very interesting meeting.
Also this month we are having our yearly outing and this year we are going to Ripon in the morning and then onto Newby Hall and gardens in the afternoon. We will have coffee on the way and also lunch out. These outings are really successful and enjoyed by everybody.
October: This is our annual general meeting night, which is very stimulating. This is when we choose a new committee or re appoint anyone who wishes to remain on the committee, and then we have a sales table and a good jacobs join supper. I promise you that it is a good night and not a bit like usual boring AG.M's.
November: Once again we are going to arrange a Christmas Craft evening or something connected to Christmas to set the ball rolling for the festive season approaching.
Well this was The Wennington W.I. calendar for 2005. We are a grand happy bunch

2004:
January: Is the annual social evening which we share with Lowgill W.I. It is a Hot Pot and pudding evening, followed by a game of bingo and a quiz. It is a fun evening and enjoyed enormously by everyone.
Also in January we have our annual outing to the sales in Manchester followed by a show at one of the theatres. This year we went to see the "Rise and Fall of Little Voice" at the Exchange theatre, which was absolutely fantastic and everyone had a good view in the superb circular theatre.
February: This meeting was a very special meeting,
as it was the 75th birthday of the start of Wennington W.I. We had a cake made
my Mrs Jean Timewell with candles on, which was cut by our oldest serving member
of 60 years Mrs Ivy Kirby and of course we had champagne. It was also the 80th
birthday of Emmeline Garnett, one of our members, so we also had a cake made
for her and candles and champagne. Our Federation Leader Mrs Hazel Short was
at the meeting, and gave us a resume of our institute and what we did years
ago.
Our speaker was Mrs Ann Blackwell who gave us a talk on her Life in the Theatre.
It was a wonderful evening - one which will always bring back memories of laughter
and fun.
March: was our joint meeting with Tunstall and this year it was our turn to go to Tunstall, where we were warmly greeted and the speaker was a lady on plants and gardening, which everyone enjoyed. The Tunstall ladies gave us a super supper, which was a gastronomic treat.
Also in this month we have our yearly Cheese and Wine which is held in the village institute and is supported by most of the village and people from away too. The monies made at this event is usually donated to one of the local charities. This year we gave to the local First Responders Group.
April: This month we asked Mr John Natlacen and his wife to be our speaker. It was not fully attended as it was around Easter time and a few members were away, but that did not detract from us all having a fantastic evening. John and Jules gave us different tasters of cheeses which he sells in his shop at Kirkby Lonsdale, and one of our member nipped home for some wine making it even more enjoyable. It was a lovely friendly atmosphere, the whole evening being a total success.
May: This was an evening spent at the presidents home, where a barbeque was given. It was a lovely evening weather wise and the food was really good. A quiz had been devised for us by our treasurer's husband which kept everyone busy all evening and then at the end we had a sales table which swelled our funds for our summer trip.
June: The president and secretary went to the annual national federation meeting which this year was held in Sheffield. It was quite an eventful day seeing as how our coach broke down on a very busy roundabout near the venue for the meeting. We were over half an hour late but the meeting went very well and was an enjoyable day out. When we got back home we went straight to our own meeting which had been taken by mrs Jean Timewell. The speaker was a Mrs Anne Brown who gave a talk on Lancashire Air Ambulance. We have donated to this charity on numerous occasions and were interested to see what the ambulances have to do on call out. At the meeting in Sheffield in the afternoon a resolution for HM Government to make substantial funds available annually to the Air Ambulance Service was turned down.
July: This is our end of Term Summer Party Night, and each year one of our members offers her garden for this event. This year we are going to Mrs Sue O'Brien's who lives in Wennington. We have a special jacobs join evening where all members excel in their favourite dish, and wine is provided. We have a quiz and a real good old chit chat.
There is no meeting in August.
September: One of our members Mrs Jean Argles
is giving us a talk on where east met west at this meeting. Jean is an intrepid
traveler who brings slides and nick nacks back from some of her journeys.
We all thoroughly enjoy these talks and look forward to them every year.
Also this month we are having our yearly outing and this year we are going to Holker Hall and gardens.
November: We are hoping this year to find someone to come along and give us a talk and show us how to make a Christmas Decoration or Card. Also this month we are hoping to arrange an educational day out to Alston Hall where the lady who gave us the talk about the air ambulance in June is a tutor, and she is offering us various crafts that we might like to make.
December: Well what else would you expect us to do but have a party in this month. Our committee finds a local hotel and we all go out for dinner. We also take a present wrapped up and put into the bran tub and then we all take a gift home with us from one of our friends. It is a lovely social evening and gets us all into the Christmas Spirit.
